For Dr. Howard C. Cutler, happiness is the no. 1 goal in life. Born in 1953, he is one of the world’s foremost experts in the science of happiness. His work with the 14th Dalai Lama titled “The Art of Happiness” spent nearly two years on the New York Times best-sellers list.
Dr. Cutler met the Dalai Lama XIV when studying Tibetan medicine during a research trip to India in 1982. He compiled his notes from his many conversations with the spiritual leader. Then, he proceeded to scour scientific research to back up the Buddhist teachings.
The next 16 years comprised pleading and bargaining with publishers to accept and print the book. He has since co-written many editions and expanded the original into a series with more specific focuses. Outside of writing, Dr. Cutler practices psychiatry in Tempe, Arizona. He also gives speeches and presentations for radio, television, and private audiences.
