JJ Sutherland

JJ Sutherland is a businessman and a writer with a lot of ambition. Together with his father, Jeff Sutherland, JJ Southerland wrote “Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time.” This book brought broader recognition to the methods of Scrum Inc., which his father co-founded in the early 1990s.

Scrum, the system behind both the business and the books, helps managers and leaders in many fields achieve more through its well-coordinated teamwork. Before joining the company, Sutherland was an award-winning broadcast journalist for National Public Radio doing fieldwork in Afghanistan and Iraq. He now acts as CEO for his family’s company.

Training clients continue to be part of his role in Scrum Inc. His educational background comes from a year at Carnegie Mellon University and a few years at Harvard University, where he studied Middle Eastern history. He is married to Veronica Ruiz, who lives and works with him in Washington, D.C.
