After spending over three decades of his life in an investment banking career, Larry Bates decided to teach all that he learned to ordinary Canadians. To do so, he launched a website and blog, started doing public speaking events, and wrote a book. That book is “Beat the Bank: The Canadian Guide to Simply Successful Investing.”

Bates worked in several big investment banks and with many world-class investors over the course of his career. His most notable position was Global Head at RBC’s Debt Capital Markets. Now, he consults independently in both Canada and the U.S.

In addition to his own financial advocacy and consulting, he serves as a member on the FAIR Canada Board of Directors. The Transparency Task Force has also named him as an ambassador in recognition of his goal of making financial services accessible to all. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree earned from Dalhousie University.
