Matthew Walker

Dr. Matthew Walker is a neuroscience and psychology professor at UC Berkeley and author of international bestseller “Why We Sleep.” Of course, he is as good a lecturer as a writer. He gave a very popular TED Talk in 2019 titled “Sleep is your superpower.”

Dr. Walker went to university in England, where he was also born and raised, before taking professorships at Harvard and then at UC Berkeley. Once established at the University of California campus, he founded and now directs its Center for Human Sleep Science. Much of the research in his book comes from there.

Some of the research that he cites in his book also comes from his work with Project Baseline, a sleep research effort from Google’s parent company, Alphabet, Inc. His book has been published in two editions with different subtitles. It has been key in spreading the word about how important sleep is to human health and disease prevention.
