Robert Pool

Robert Pool is a leading authority on deliberate practice, defined as a purposeful system of learning. As such, he co-authored “Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise” with K. Anders Ericsson, the world-renowned expert on experts. However, Dr. Pool wore a few different hats before his move into writing, consulting, and speaking on expertise.

He began his career as a science writing instructor at Rice University before he became a newspaper columnist. His science and business news writing spanned two decades before his and Dr. Ericsson’s bestseller hit the shelves in bookstores. During that time, he also wrote a number of academic texts and journal articles.

Dr. Pool wrote three other books for general audiences as well. Uniquely versatile as a writer, he has covered topics ranging from public health to engineering and technology. These days, he spends much of his time on developing materials for his clients and his Peak Deliberate Practice website.
